5 Ways to Make a Lovely Bathroom
The bathroom is, rather unfortunately, one of the last rooms we think of when it comes to style and decorating. Perhaps it’s because we probably spend the least amount of time here, or maybe it’s that it seems so functional— but it doesn’t have to be this way. Take a look at five ideas, all inspired by our House Tour archives, for making a beautiful bathroom you’ll want to spend time in.

1. Be Bold with Tile
There’s more to life than subway tile and mini mosaics (great as those options can be). Walk on the wild side with a dark wall tile or a boldly-patterned floor.

2. Consider Color
Bathrooms are often small, but that shouldn’t mean they’re stuck in the realm of neutrals. A modest space is often improved by a dose of saturated color.

3. Make it Homey
This bathroom feels so warm and inviting, partially due to the lack of cold, hard finishes we often associate with bathrooms. A wood floor (properly sealed for wet areas, wood is usable), toile shower curtain and an armoire-turned-vanity up the cozy factor.

4. Play with Scale
Small room, big style. Abigail Ahern shows us how it’s done in her Dark and Dramatic East London Home, by positioning a large (ok, huge) chandelier over the tub.

5. Don’t Forget the Art
Bathrooms need decoration, too. The tub gets a mini gallery wall of sorts, which gives the room personality and creates continuity with the rest of the home.
