Considered one of the best product designers in the United Kingdom and worldwide, Lee Broom created his own brand back in 2007 with the aim of producing highly original lighting designs as well as innovative accessories and furnishings. At NYCxDesign 2018, Lee Broom is expected to showcase a brand-new lighting design, Lens Fair, a spectacular spherical design. Also during this occasion, the British designer will be presenting his stellar-inspired Observatory collection, which was first displayed at the beloved Milan Design Week. Today, Design Build Ideas will explore these one-of-a-kind design and collection.
The astonishing spherical lighting piece was based on telescopic lenses and the art of horizontal and vertical refractions. Lens Flair is a piece of two halves, seamlessly combining the solid and the transparent. A detailed cross-cut lens emits a soft deflected light, which is juxtaposed by contemporary solid casing in brushed brass or matte black finishes.
Lee Broom’s latest design is available as a pendant or table lamp and measures 16 inches in diameter. This exclusive piece can definitely be used as a statement piece and when in used in a series they almost appear to be a celestial installation that immediately enhances the overall design of said space. Besides NYCxDesign, this unique lighting design will also be displayed at Broom’s flagship New York showroom at 34 Greene Street, on 17th May 2018.
Now, in regards to the Observatory collection, this is considered to be the most progressive work ever created by Lee Broom due to its vertical and horizontal proportions, sculptural and spherical form as well as allowing for the refraction and reflection of light. New technology played a big part in this extraordinary collection, from LED lighting systems to custom-designed bulbs. It displays new finishes like polished chrome and gives new interpretations of materials used in previous collections.
As a whole, this new collection certainly registers a new director for the utterly talented product designer. Some of the most iconic pieces of this collection are Eclipse, Aurora, Orion and Tidal, all of which you will be able to see at the designer’s showroom in NYC.
